The game is played with six or eight decks of cards, depending on the variation. Players should understand the three-card limit and that the hand that has a total of nine, closest to nine wins. As it is with all card games, the value of each card changes according to the rank.
In baccarat, the goal is to predict which of the two hands or Player or Banker will win the round. Before any cards are dealt, players will place their bets. Once bets are placed, cards are dealt accordingly.
The Player gets their first two cards first. The Banker will then receive two cards face down which are set aside and not touched until the end of the round. After this, the Player will get one extra card if the total of their two cards is five or less. Then, the Banker may get one extra card, depending on the value of the Player’s third card.
Winning and Payouts
When the round is over, the two hands will be compared and the side with the higher score will be declared the winner. Aces are worth one, face cards and tens are worth zero and number cards are their usual face value. In the case of a tie, the stakes are carried over to the next round.
The payouts for different bets and winnings vary from casino to casino, so make sure to check the rules for the specific one you are playing in. Online baccarat may have different payouts standing at 1:1 for winning bets on the banker, and 1:1 for player bets and a payout of 8:1 for winning tie bets.
