Blackjack, also known as 21, is one of the simplest and most famous casino card games in the world. Usually, two or more players compete against a dealer, and the goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. A standard 52-card deck is used and all face cards (J, Q, K) are valued as 10. Aces are valued at 1 or 11, and all of the other numbered cards are valued as their stated number.
Players and others at the table must place their bets before the cards are dealt. After the bets have been placed the dealer starts handing out the cards. Each participant, including the dealer, initially receives two cards. If the value of a players' combined two cards are 21, then they have a blackjack and receive 3:2 odds from the dealer.
Players look at their cards and decide if they want to hit, or take another card, or stay. Staying means they stand with the cards they have. Aces cannot be re-split but other pairs can be, and thereby creating more hands to play. After the players have chosen, then the dealer reveals their hand and based on the players hand value they must stand stay at 17 or higher.
If the total value of the players cards is higher than the dealers, the player will be paid their winnings. If the dealer's card total is higher than the players, then the player loses their bet. If both the player and the dealer have the same hand, then the player has a push and neither wins nor losses the bet.
