There are many different types of bets a player can make in craps.
The Pass line bet is the most basic bet. This bet is made on the first roll of the dice, and if it is a 7 or 11, the bettor wins. If the roll is a 2, 3, or 12, the bettor loses. If a different number appears, this number is called the point. In order to win the Pass line bet, the same point must be repeated before a 7 is rolled.
The Don’t Pass line bet is the opposite of the Pass line bet. This means if a 7 or 11 appears on the come out roll, the bettor loses. If the roll is a 2 or 3, the bettor wins, and if a 12 is rolled, the bettor is paid out but does not win the bet. If any other number is rolled, this number is the point and the bettor wins if a 7 is rolled before the point is repeated.
Odds bets are placed after the point is established. The odd bet is received at true odds, and the bettor has the option of taking or laying odds. The taking of odds is when a bettor bets that the point will be repeated, and the laying of odds is when a bettor bets that a 7 will be rolled before the point.
Other types of bets include Place bets, Big Six, and Big Eight. Place bets are bets that a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will be rolled before a 7. Big Six and Big Eight are bets that a 6 and 8, respectively, will be rolled before a 7. Proposition bets are also available and are one-roll bets that pay high odds.
