Uruguay has a somewhat uncertain history in regards to gambling. Traditional gambling was legalized in the early 1900s, with Casinos Springing up all over the country. However, this period was short-lived and by 1930, all forms of gambling had been outlawed again.
At the end of the 20th century gambling was legalized again in the country, although in what limited manner it was only available. Nowadays, there are only three existing casinos in the country and roulette is available to play in all of them. In 2017, local online casinos were legalized as well, but unlike the land-based casinos, the number of online casinos accepting the local players is far less limited. Players must also be 18+ in order to play.
