Texas hold 'em (also known as Texas holdem, hold 'em, and holdem) is the most popular of the community card poker games. It is a variation of the other popular poker game, seven-card stud. Hold 'em originated in miles-spelled, an organized form of gaming in which teams of players try to win money by matching strategies and knowledge. The game then spread around the nation, leading to the increasingly popular game of Texas hold 'em.
The game has spread throughout the country, although it experienced an explosion of popularity when it was broadcast on television in the 1970s. Hold 'em has become a fixture in local home poker games, tournaments, and on the internet. The World Series of Poker Main Event, which began in 1970 and is held annually in Las Vegas each July, has served to fuel the game's popularity further.
