Video poker is a casino game played on a computerized console similar to the one used in slot machines. The game is usually available in electronic format in most casinos and can be played online at internet casinos. A player is dealt five playing cards, which they can choose to discard and replace with new cards, forming a "hand". The player is then paid out for their final hand at the end of a game based on the game's pay table.
As with other card games, players of video poker must make decisions that maximize their chances of winning. Simply discarding all five cards and drawing five new cards to form a new hand will rarely result in a winning combination. Instead, players must determine which cards to keep and which to discard and then decide which types of draws to make in order to maximize their chances of making a winning hand.
