There are two main variations of Mahjong in Algeria: Hong Kong and Japanese Mahjong. The Hong Kong version is the most popular in the country and is played using the rules set by the World Mahjong Organization. Meanwhile, the Japanese version is slightly different and follows stricter rules.
In the Hong Kong version, players start with 16 tiles on the table and get rid of them by discarding and replacing them with tiles from the wall. The player then has to get rid of all of their tiles and submit their score. The player with the highest score wins.
The Japanese version is more strategic and requires players to collect and discard more tiles. In this version, players also start with 16 tiles but deal up to four wall sections. Players need to collect a set of 14 tiles before they can discard a tile.
