Roulette is a game of chance said to have originated in the 17th century by French physicist and mathematician, Blaise Pascal. It is believed that Pascal created the game in pursuit of a perpetual motion device. As the tale goes, some roulette wheels used to contain 37 slots, which were eventually modified to contain 38 instead. The game spread all over Europe and eventually in the U.S. in the 19th century.
