Luxembourg has a long history with gambling and was one of the first countries in Europe to legalize casino gaming in 1934. The first legal casino was opened in 1955 and, since then, the country has seen a number of changes and expansions in its gambling laws. In 2014, the government passed legislation which allowed for a number of new gambling activities, such as online slots, to become legal and regulated. Gambling in Luxembourg still remains a heavily regulated industry, with the primary aim of protecting players and preventing crime.
