Mahjong is a tile-based game originating in China, commonly played by four players. Its popularity has now extended to many parts of the world, including Malaysia. Mahjong is a game of both luck and skill. Players attempt to create melds of the same numbered or suited tiles in order to make certain patterns which they can then discard in order to win the game.
The game is played with a set of tiles, arranged in various patterns. Each player receives 14 tiles which are separate from the rest of the game. These tiles are kept hidden from other players during the game and must be kept in order to win. Additional tiles can be drawn from a number of walls in the center of the table. In this way, players can continue building their own sets or attempting to complete other players’ melds while maintaining their own.
