Evolution has agreed to pay a £4.75 million settlement to Britain’s Gambling Commission. This agreement follows the discovery that its games were accessible to two unlicensed operators. The settlement concludes an 18-month licence review of Evolution’s operating licence in the United Kingdom, which was initiated in December 2024.
Regulatory Findings and Breach of Terms
The review, which commenced in December 2024, specifically identified that Evolution’s game content was made available through two distinct operators. These operators utilised six different websites to offer content to British customers. Crucially, these entities operated without the necessary UK gambling license, constituting a breach of Evolution’s established terms of supply. Evolution stated that the operators actively evaded the restrictions that were in place at the time of the incidents. Despite these findings, the comprehensive 18-month review did not uncover a broader pattern of unlicensed access to Evolution’s content within the UK market.
Evolution's Response and Enhanced Compliance
Evolution demonstrated full cooperation with the Gambling Commission throughout the review process. The company confirmed its routine engagement in technical, legal, and commercial actions designed to identify, address, and prevent any unauthorised access to its content, a common concern for iGaming software suppliers. Upon the discovery of the issue, Evolution promptly terminated its commercial relationships with the two unlicensed operators involved. Evolution CEO Martin Carlesund commented on the situation, stating, “At Evolution, we always want to do what is right, and it is not acceptable that six unlicensed sites offered Evolution content in the regulated UK market.” He further emphasised, “We do not want traffic from unlicensed operators and will always move quickly to address any such situation.”
Commitment to Industry-Leading Standards
The company is continuously strengthening its technical measures and refining its operational procedures. Recent enhancements include the introduction of advanced ring-fencing measures. Evolution acknowledged that while no system can entirely eliminate attempts by third parties to circumvent controls, it remains dedicated to ongoing investment in industry-leading compliance standards. The company also expressed its commitment to working constructively with regulators to effectively address these challenges. Carlesund welcomed the conclusion of the review, reiterating Evolution's focus on continuing to supply its online casino game selection exclusively to licensed operators in the UK. Following the announcement, shares in Evolution AB (STO:EVO) saw a gain of 0.96 per cent, reaching SEK696.40 per share in Stockholm.
